Elopement Hotel Belmond Caruso | summary

Some weddings are grand productions. And then there are the ones that belong only to two people — where the guest list is small enough to fit around a single table, where the ceremony is held at the edge of a cliff above the sea, where the emotion is so concentrated and so real that you feel it through the lens.
This was one of those weddings.
Ravello, and Why It Is Unlike Anywhere Else on the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most photographed coastlines in the world. Positano gets the Instagram traffic. Amalfi has the cathedral. But Ravello sits above all of it — a small hilltop village perched 350 metres above the sea, quieter than the coastal towns, more intimate, and with a quality of light in the late afternoon that is unlike anything we encounter anywhere else.
There are no cars to speak of. The streets are narrow stone paths. The views from the terraces open across the entire curve of the coastline below. And at the Belmond Hotel Caruso — one of the great hotels of southern Italy — the world has the particular quality of existing at a slight remove from everything ordinary.
It is the right place for an elopement. For two people who want everything to be perfect and nothing to be crowded.
The Day
They chose a summer afternoon — the light already beginning its long, golden descent toward the sea by the time the ceremony began. The groom was waiting. And when his bride arrived, he could not hold it together. He saw her and he wept — not with sadness, but with the kind of relief that comes when something you have been hoping for finally, completely, becomes real.
It is the moment we remember most from that day. Not the flowers, not the view, not the light over the water — though all of those were extraordinary. The moment a man saw the person he had chosen and could not find words.
The officiant guided them through the ceremony with warmth and precision. Vows were exchanged on the terrace with the coast of Campania spread below them, the sea a deep, saturated blue in the summer heat.
The Caruso’s Spaces: What We Used and Why
The Wagner Garden at the Belmond Hotel Caruso is one of the most beautiful small ceremony spaces on the Amalfi Coast — named after the composer Richard Wagner, who stayed in Ravello and was inspired by the landscape here. Intimate, enclosed, and positioned with views directly over the sea, it is designed almost by accident for exactly this kind of small, intense celebration.
We also used the pool terrace for portraits — the infinity pool at the Caruso is among the most famous in Italy, and for good reason. The water catches the late afternoon light and holds it. The views from the pool deck extend across the entire bay.
But some of our favourite images from the day came from Ravello itself — the town outside the hotel gates. The streets, the stairways, the unexpected squares where the light falls in from an angle you do not anticipate until you are standing in it. A great location for portraits is not always the most famous one. Sometimes it is the one that nobody else thought to use.

A Note from The Genovese Studio
Ravello is one of those places that earns its reputation. The food is extraordinary. The light in the evening turns the whole hillside gold. And the Caruso, which has been welcoming guests since the 18th century, has a quietness and a confidence about it that the more famous coastal hotels simply do not have.
If you are considering an elopement on the Amalfi Coast, we would choose Ravello. Every time.
